Tether announced it is working with RGB Protocol to launch USDT stablecoin, helping move the narrative of Bitcoin towards onchain activity, according the company's press release.
RGB Protocol is a free software project allowing developers to build Bitcoin-native smart contracts and dApps (decentralized applications). The network is also privacy-focused, with ZK (zero knowledge) infrastructure and sharding architecture for better scalability.
Praising the adoption of USDT on RGB Protocol, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino expressed:
Bitcoin deserves a stablecoin that feels truly native, lightweight, private, and scalable. With RGB, USD₮ gains a powerful new pathway on Bitcoin, reinforcing our belief in Bitcoin as the foundation of a freer financial future.
In August, USDT's market cap sits at $167B - with nearly 500M estimated users around the world.
This helps to not only further the world's first stablecoin across more chains, but also to incorporate Bitcoin back into the heart of blockchain transfers and the daily payments discourse as more public companies, institutional funds and governments eye the digital asset as an alternative to Gold.
