MasterCard has successfully acquired BVNK for $1.8B.

MasterCard, the global card network for businesses, merchants and issuer banks has revealed it is officially acquiring BVNK. The latter has had an exceptional growth since it first began in 2021 and is now a leader of enabling stablecoin transfers and custom settlement infrastructure.

Cofounder and CEO Jesse Struthers expressed:

“For all of the advancements made in simplifying the digital currency opportunity, we have only scratched the surface of what’s possible. This deal brings together complementary capabilities to define and deliver the future of money. Together, we’re able to deliver an unprecedented infrastructure for digital currency-based financial services.”

MasterCard CPO Jorn Lambert added:

“We expect that most financial institutions and fintechs will in time provide digital currency services, be it with stablecoins or tokenized deposits. We want to support them and their customers with a best in class, highly compliant, interoperable offering that brings the benefits of tokenized money to the real world.”

The deal includes an integration of the BVNK team to broaden MasterCard’s current stablecoin capabilities. Post-acquisition, the roadmap will double down on building a robust fiat-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat optionality for fund movement across 200 countries and 150 currencies, as well as easy and instant stablecoin checkouts.

This comes after months of speculation whether another 10 figure M&A will happen in the space, as both MasterCard and Coinbase were heavily linked to a potential BVNK deal in the last few weeks of 2025. Stablecoin acquisitions, however, are not slowing down any time soon.
